Fungkee Supercoating exhibited in the Growing Pavilion at Floriade

August 26, 2020

A few objects from the Fungkee Supercoating project are currently on display in the Growing Pavilion located at the Floriade. The Floriade is the International Horticultural Expo since 1960. The Floriade is held once every ten years. This special seventh edition in 2022 will focus fully on the Green City of the Future.

The Growing Pavilion, which attracted about 75,000 visitors during Dutch Design Week in 2019, has been given a new place at Floriade Preview in Almere. With new biobased designs, the makers hope to inspire more people in the field of biobased building and design.

Varying temporary exhibitions
The Growing Pavilion is an iconic example of C02 negative building and designing. It is an ode to the power and beauty of biobased building. This is reflected in the expositions in the pavilion. These are curated by Dutch Design Foundation in collaboration with Company New Heroes. The changing exhibitions are related to the themes of Floriade Expo 2022: Greening the City, Feeding the City, Healthying the City and Energising the City.

Biobased X Health

The first theme is health, maybe more relevant then ever. We present work of five Dutch designers who use biobased materials to create a healthy indoor living climate. Discarded flowers get a new live thanks to Jessica Rijkers who transforms them into sustainable textile free from pesticides. Studio Klarenbeek & Dros is working on a circular algae system. Martijn Straatman creates valuable new objects from manure.  Mireille Steinhage triggers our consciousness with air purification through salt crystals.  Studio Nienke  Hoogvliet shares her research into how organic textile  contributes to the health those wearing it. And Emma van der Leest shows designs based on bacteria and fungi.
